Taxes or Eating Healthy – Which is More Difficult?

Graphic showing which people think is harder to do well: figuring out what to eat to be healthier (52%) or figuring out your taxes (48%)

Let’s be honest…most of us don’t exactly look forward to tax season.  There are forms to track down.  Numbers to calculate.  Decisions to make that feel way above our pay grade.

And yet…what if we told you that, for many Americans, figuring out what to eat is even harder than doing their taxes!

It sounds crazy – but it’s true.  A national survey found that more than half of adults say it’s harder to figure out how to eat healthy than it is to prepare their taxes.

So the question is…

Too Much Noise?  We are bombarded with nutrition advice everywhere we turn:

It’s no wonder so many people feel stuck.  In fact, most people say it’s hard to know what to believe because nutrition advice is constantly changing.  And when everything sounds important…nothing feels clear.

  • “Go low-carb”
  • “Avoid fat”
  • “Eat more protein”
  • “Only eat organic”
  • “Try this new superfood” (just the other day, we saw someone trying the newest superfood gummies)

Endless options!  Walk into any grocery store and you’ll find thousands of products, many claiming to be “healthy.”

But most are:

  • Highly processed
  • Filled with additives
  • Designed to be convenient – NOT nourishing

Those overwhelming aisles of choices make it even harder.  That’s why we have tried to help you navigate the store with our grocery store tours and grocery store cheat sheet.

Cost, Time, and Life.  Let’s face it, there are so many barriers people face today including:

In fact, about 7 in 10 Americans say the cost of healthy food has made it harder to eat well in recent years.  If you can relate to any (or all) of these barriers, you’re not alone!

So…what’s the solution?

Here’s the good news:  Eating healthy does NOT have to be complicated.

At Eat REAL America, we believe the simple answer is keep it simple and Eat REAL Food.

No diets.  No extremes.  No confusion.  Just REAL, whole food – prepared in a way that fits your life.

Instead of chasing the latest trend, we encourage you to come back to the basics:

Start with REAL Ingredients.  Focus on foods that come from a farm – not a factory.

Always read ingredient labels.  Be mindful of serving sizes, but don’t obsess about them.  When you build meals from REAL ingredients, everything else starts to fall into place.

Cook More Meals at Home – and Don’t Overcomplicate It.  You don’t have to be a chef.  Even simple meals at home can:

Remember…one meal at a time!  It’s all about consistency.  We know picky eaters can be challenging, but it is important to set a good example.

Like we said in our coaching tip Cooking is a Superpower!, cooking is far more than just a way to feed yourself.  It’s a superpower that transforms your relationship with food, health, and family.

Plan Ahead – Even Just a Little.  You don’t need a perfect system – just a plan.
